Position Summary

Directs activities and business operations of school health programs and initiatives. This position is responsible for professional administrative management and direction for nurse managers and clinical staff.

 All Registered Nurses employed by the Mecklenburg County Health Department are Public Health Nurses. Public Health Nurses, regardless of official title or classification, may provide nursing services during urgent and/or emergent public health events. These services include, but are not limited to, administration of immunizations for various ages and groups, mass medication distribution, and provision of health services in shelter environments.

Essential Functions

·    Provide professional, management, and direction for managers as well as community-wide collaboration efforts

·    Participate in community-level planning to develop partnerships with healthcare providers and areas of collaborative practice to ensure programs’ needs are met

·    Perform strategic planning initiatives within school health

·    Ensure federal, state, and local policy rules and regulations are followed

·    Provide oversight and direction for implementation of programs/services

·    Coordinate within the department across divisions

·    Make decisions on the day-to-day operations of the division

·    Assist with identifying funding opportunities and developing funding proposals

·    Participate in the development of policies and procedures for assigned case management and care coordination programs

·    Represent division County-wide and to Commissioners

·    Lead legislative initiatives

·    May be required to staff shelters in the event of a disaster



Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 

10 years, plus three years of supervisory experience.

Education: 

Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field.

Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?:  Yes

Licenses and Certifications

·    May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License

·    Must obtain and maintain a Mecklenburg County Operator's Permit

·    Must require a current NC License to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the NC Board of Nursing or another Nurse Licensure Compact State

Preferred Qualifications

·    Master's degree in a related field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·    Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources

·    Principles and processes for providing customer services; this includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction

·    Budget development and monitoring

·    The structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar

·    Laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, and agency rules, and the political climate

·    Expertise in school health
